Entering a New Proposal
PIs may prepare and submit their entire proposal
electronically using FastLane. NSF has patterned the
on-line forms after their paper counterparts. After
Co-PIs or administrative support personnel are added
to a proposal they also can access the document
(provided they have a PIN number) and assist in its
development. The Project Summary, Project
Description, Biographical Sketches, References Cited,
Budget Justification, etc. can be created with a
standard word processor, converted to PDF format and
uploaded as part of the submission process.
Please see FastLane. s . 10 Steps to Prepare a Proposal.
Check the Status of a Proposal
After a proposal has been submitted to NSF and an
acknowledgment of receipt containing the
NSF-assigned proposal number has been received, the
status of that proposal will be available through
FastLane. To find the status of a proposal, click on the
Proposal Status link on the FastLane Home Page. You
will need the following pieces of information to look up
a proposal.
The NSF assigned proposal number, minus the
directorate designation
(e.g., DCM 95-12345 becomes 9512345)
PI (or Co-PI) Last Name
PI (or Co-PI) PIN
Nervous about the process?
NSF maintains a FastLane test server that allows PIs to
experiment with the FastLane system. A faculty
member may experiment with the proposal submission
process, notification, or request using sample data.
