Multidisciplinary Project Apportionment Sheet
This form should be used by all proposals which involve faculty and staff from different units within the university. Units are
defined as and the professional schools (except Medicine) and departments within the Schools of Medicine and the College of
Arts and Sciences. For each unit involved (NOT for each faculty/staff member involved) provide a percentage estimate of the
'credit' for the project that should be given to that unit. These percentages do not affect how funds are budgeted or distributed
among the units. This information will be used in internal university reports to show the level of activity and participation of the
faculty in the various units in external grants and contracts.
It is up to the faculty involved in the project to decide among themselves how to apportion the credit. Usually, but not always,
the unit of the principal investigator or project director gets the highest percentage credit. One rough way of apportioning credit
is to use the normalized percent effort of faculty staff involved, e.g., using this method if the principal investigator devotes 20%
of his time to a project and his two collaborators in two different departments each devote 10% time, than the unit of the
principal investigator will receive 50% credit and each of the collaborators' units will receive 25% credit.
